We start off with an exploration of the South Coast, home to several of Iceland’s iconic natural attractions including the mighty Skógafoss waterfall, before moving on to Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, although at first glance you may think you’ve landed on another planet. The 250-m deep and roughly 18-square-km lagoon is filled with colossal chunks of floating ice that have calved from the glacier. We take plenty of time to explore and photograph this bizarre and beautiful landscape. Our last stop of the day is Gerdi Country Hotel, where dinner is available for purchase in the restaurant before we turn in for the night. On day two we travel to Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe. Hidden inside the glacier is a remarkable natural ice cave just begging to be explored. We’ll gear up with crampons, helmets and headlamps if needed before our gallant guide takes us inside the ice.
After visiting this natural wonder we get back on the road. Before returning to Reykjavik, we will make one last stop at Seljalandsfoss waterfall.
